  • Rewards multiple viewings

“Topaz” is a film that rewards those who view it multiple times. I didn’t like it the first time I saw it. Nor the second. Nor the third. But there was something about it that kept drawing me back to it, that made it impossible to forget. It’s not perfect: It’s a little too leisurely paced and the denouement takes a little too long to resolve. But it’s a movie made by grown-ups for grown-ups, and that’s probably why I liked it so much more in my 30s and 40s than I ever did as a teenager.
  • One fine film.
